I am a passionate, fast-learning, and hardworking cook with over 5 years of professional experience.I first learned to cook while working in a pub from 2018-2023. I started out as a dishwasher, and worked my way up through the kitchen roles to pan chef. My last 2 years there I spent in a supervisor position, second to the head chef. I gained meaningful experience finding and creating new menu items, with a focus on soups and desserts, and was responsible for running the kitchen during some of our busiest times. Separately, I have volunteer experience both serving and bartending. With experience working so many different positions in a restaurant, I have great respect for all of my coworkers, and the challenges they face.In 2020 I went vegan, and my love for cooking exploded. My experience multiplied as I ventured into new territory with my home cooking, and regularly had to redesign recipes. This new set of skills to create hearty and balanced dishes catered to a plant-based audience is an asset today, with a growing vegan/vegetarian population, and too many restaurants with lacklustre options for their guests with dietary needs. I am also passionate about sustainability, and I am willing to put in the leg work to help your business become more eco-friendly.I am currently enrolled in Durham College’s Culinary Management program, where I am going back to basics learning about the history of cooking, and traditional methods. I understand that to create something great, it is important to know where it all started. This is complemented with my love for gardening and the deep connection I feel to the earth. I believe caring about your ingredients and where they come from is the first step to cooking something delicious, and classic cooking techniques focus on highlighting natural flavours.I was born with a love for rules, so I am a great fit for management positions. I am very organized, and take pride in ensuring procedures are being correctly followed. I can help to reinforce food safety in the workplace, and have skills helpful for deep-cleaning, creating schedules, and placing orders. My optimism pairs well with my supervisory skills, and I like to play to everyone’s strengths whenever possible.
