The Public Information Manager is accountable for developing and implementing internal and external organizational communication strategies for Explore Asheville and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority (BCTDA) to ensure that unified, consistent, and positive messages define and promote the organization’s mission, strategic imperatives, and values. The role establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with staff, partners, the public and local media to generate good will throughout the community. The Public Information Manager serves as Explore Asheville’s spokesperson, manages the creation of the annual report, writes, and distributes all local news releases, working with BCTDA Members and staff to present a positive and professional image.

- Develop a systematic approach for public participation in open space activation.- Develop new programming services and revise existing services, policies, and procedures in response to needs within the community.- Assist with the planning and leadership of open space community interventions, programs and activations.- Build and maintain strong relationships with members across the community.- Oversee the communication to neighborhood groups and individuals to encourage use of the City's open spaces, to ensure underserved communities, neighborhoods, and individuals are included in open space program development and usage.- Oversee the promotion of program participation in open spaces events throughout the City, and develop a programming playbook.- Enhance planning strategies and initiatives by engaging communities during the process, testing ideas, and implementing outcomes. - Work cross functionally with other City departments, including, but not limited to Community Development and the Office of Arts, Culture & the Creative Economy, to identify community needs and efficiently augment resources by partnering on initiatives. - Lead and supervise lower level staff, to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are well trained; and ensuring employees follow policies and procedures.- Advise the Director of Special Events and Parks Programming and the Administrator of Parks and Outdoors on public open spaces events, programming activities, and related issues.

ASMP Implementation - Guide the implementation of the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan as it relates to projects in South Austin. This includes reviewing the ASMP policies, action items, and maps to coordinate cross-departmentally for the two year plan update. Additionally, facilitate meaningful relationships with community members to guide future funding from the Street Impact Fee (SIF) towards projects from the Roadway Capacity Plan. ATX Walk, Bike, Roll - Support Walk Bike Roll Ambassadors as they collect stories of lived experiences from communities of color and other vulnerable populations for an equity update to the Bicycle, Urban Trails, and Sidewalk Plans. Equity Analysis Zones (EAZs) - Guide Community Advisory Team members through the planning process of determining which variables and weights should be used for mapping vulnerable communities in Austin. The EAZ map will be used for future planning processes to inform future funding, project prioritization, programming, evaluation, and engagement.

Focus on community-facing TDM programming and policy including:Austin Strategic Mobility Plan – TDM support: be a key team member for the ASMP, conduct best practice research for TDM strategies, collaborate with consultant on TDM program development and public outreach, assist with plan writing for the TDM section, participate in public outreach and education.CodeNEXT and Transportation Criteria Manual – TDM support: be a key team member for the project, conduct best practice research for TDM code language, conduct research on quantification of strategies, assist with criteria manual language writing, assist with development of quantification methodologies, participate in public outreach and education.Smart Trips Austin – Manage the contract for the Smart Trips Austin program, coordinate with co-funder CapMetro, participate in weekly project team meetings, review and approve project deliverables, plan for future programming, plan for future funding opportunities. Overtime management in this role has led to: increase of program size and access during the pandemic, pursuance of equity sub-goals and trust-building workshops with the community, supervision and adaptation of community ambassador program, and overall decrease in SOV use as reported through the program.TDM Rebrand - Envision and establish a new brand for the TDM program. Develop a website that utilizes behavior change science communications to reduce the number of trips taken by single occupancy vehicle. Manage and promote the brand and website to the general public and target audiences.Responsible for updating the annual TDM report and manage community facing messaging on TDM.TDM liaison to other City Departments such as Austin Center for Events, Austin Energy, Economic Development, and others as needed.Research and apply for local, regional, or federal funding for TDM programming
