Starting in my teenage years, I have always been interested in what makes us all different or alike, as well as how the human mind works. I guess you could say that I have always been the person that asks "why" to almost everything. I love knowing why people do the things that they do whether it be good or bad and why people behave differently than others. I like to know where all that comes from whether it be from childhood trauma, adulthood experiences or maybe even inherited from family members. Therefore, my journey in mental health began when I was working on my associate degree at HCTC. I had one psychology class and knew right then that my dream job would be to become a psychologist and seeing as though it is still taking me some time to achieve that goal, I want to experience all there is to experience within the mental health field along the way. Becoming a community support associate at mountain comprehensive care center and getting to work with so many people with different mental health concerns, I feel like has already opened so many doors for me to further achieve my goal at one day becoming a psychologist. With the company I work for, I can advance in the opportunities of mental health and by working with a mental health associate assisting the clients with coping skills, managing their emotions, and providing extra resources to make their home lives more comfortable; I think is helping me tremendously by gaining more knowledge.I think there has been such a stigma on mental health for a very long time and I understand that people are afraid of being labeled but at the same time, I see a rise in more people focusing on their mental health and I think maintaining a good mental health will help us all balance out our daily lives. More people need to be encouraged to have positive mental health and that's why I love doing what I do and hopefully help more people with the more education and experience that I gain. I feel like we all suffer from some sort of mental health problems, and I think it’s important we let people know that it’s okay to seek help. It’s okay to not be okay!
