General management and leadership of the technical team (approx. 120 people) for SoundCloud. Lead team through a large transition in terms of leadership that brought a huge amount of uncertainty to the group. Used a strategy of calmly relating work back to organisational, product, and technical needs. Focused on relationships and coaching as the way to leverage my own skills as well as the latent skills in a talented but inexperienced management group - incredibly rewarding for me personally!In this time we successfully managed to reset several significant structural challenges relating to organisational scale, structure and general engineering maturity:- Rebuilt significant parts of team structure to significantly aid focus, sense of purpose and simultaneously align skills within groups- Reversed poor attrition trend by focusing on technical purpose and identity, particularly in conjunction with product and corporate goals- Redefined strategy and purpose of core architecture group- Released the largest and most significant new product in the last 3 years at SoundCloud- Managed the turnaround and refinement of recruiting processes to address long recruiting lead times and inconsistent recruiting results- Matured our model for introducing external consultants and augmented workforce- Identified strategic "markers" for next phase of technical strategy (WIP)
