I moved into this role to impact even more employees with my benefits management skills - over 8,000 benefit eligible employees across Atria’s 200+ assisted living facilities in the U.S. and Canada. I also led a team that included HR/Benefit Specialists, the Leaves team & a case management system. As the Senior Benefits Specialist for this home health nursing company operating across 28 states, I administered health and welfare, retirement, and supplemental benefit plans. Once again, my accounting background helped me to develop a missed benefit deduction report, identifying employees who had been on a leave of absence but were still covered under our benefits plans without the normal payment through payroll deductions. This recovered approximately $20K in monthly costs.Due to my previous benefits experience, I served on a project team that determined the benefits-related requirements of a new HRIS system. I also helped with the selection and implementation of a new benefits system.

I was hired for this role in manufacturing to work with all of the health-related benefits, retirement, and wellness plans, and I served as a critical member of the open enrollment team. I updated the HIPAA compliance training and audited both the disability plans and health care plans. I was able to improve processes and reduce expenditures, recovering approximately $150,000 that was billed incorrectly. My interpersonal skills allowed me to build a strong relationship with the union representatives and increase benefit awareness and knowledge among our union employees.
