I sold my first ad when I was 17 years old. I saw a niche audience in our high school music program, created ad spaces, sold ads to businesses that would benefit from reaching that audience, and designed marketing messages to capture the audience's loyalty. Fast forward 20(+) years and that's similar to what I spent my time doing as the General Sales Manager at BMG. At BMG, I led our team in creating effective, results-driven advertising solutions for local and nationwide businesses using the broadcast, events, digital and social platforms of Brighter Media Group: BRIGHT-FM on 95.1FM and 103.1FM AM1230 WRBS, BMG Original Podcasts, BMG Digital Services, TheConcertSpot.com, and 48Live Productions. But I didn't start there. I started as a brand new Account Executive, applying the skills I built in securing corporate sponsorships for a nonprofit to the new sales gig. I quickly broke records, bringing in the most amount of revenue in one month, and then years, in the history of the organization. I was told no many times by national businesses that had policies against buying religious formats and I, thanks to wonderful guidance from colleagues, was able to overcome those objections over and over. Now THAT was fun. Right now, I'm consulting and freelancing in the media buying, marketing, and advertising world. I'm having a blast working on ad campaigns, collaborating with radio stations in markets across the country and managing social media.What's next? Who knows. But I have to love the people I work with, the purpose for which I work, and the thrill of a good challenge. ho'ohana
