Field Organizer for the Minnesota DFL Coordinated Campaign

As a member of the museum education staff I performed tours and science demos done in the district. Tours included: 'Pioneer Hall' a mid 1800s mock log cabin, tool shed, general store, carpenter and blacksmith shop; 'The Iowa Sullivan Brothers Veterans Museum' a museum honoring Iowa’s veterans from the civil war to present day, with an additional focus on the five Sullivan brothers; and the 'Rensselaer Russell House Museum' a restored Victorian home, that is on the National Register of Historic Places. I developed and ran programming for outreach and events within the district. These events included: 'Strolling with the Spirits,' where I assisted in research, wrote scripts, and planned a tour through a local cemetery with actors portraying historical local figures, a nanotechnology themed tea party, and a planetarium show.I also led or assisted in lessons for Museum School, which is a four day long educational program for local third grade classes.

In my internship I assisted at many events across central and eastern Iowa, and attended both political organizing and finance events. The bulk of events I attended were county meet and greets. I often helped in confirming guests, setting up the event space, and welcoming guests at the sign in table. For events in my area, I also assisted in building the attendants list, through phone banking, through relational organizing, and through social media outreach. Through my time on the campaign, I was trained in using the canvassing app Reach and trained on VPB. I built connections with many community members, including County and State Party officers. Additionally I represented the campaign at some county party meetings and conventions. I also went through the process of establishing a student organization called “Panthers for Abby” on campus. While building the student organization I was able to engage with the youth vote and build relationships with fellow democrats, including members and officers of the Northern Iowa Democrats. I kept in contact with many people on campus with campaign updates and volunteer opportunities.

As a To-Go Host I took orders over the phone, prepared and packed to-go orders, manned the window by taking orders and working as the cashier. As a Host I would often run the host stand, engage with customers, lead them to their seats, trained and took charge of newer hosts, and dealt with many angry or frustrated customers.

As an enumerator for the U.S. Census, I drove to many different cities throughout the northeast of Iowa. I went door to door in these towns trying to enumerate those who had not answered the Census Survey online or over the phone. This required great interpersonal skills to persuade unwilling people to participate in the Census.
