I facilitated classes and tutored adults who are cognitively or intellectually disabled, engaging directly with them in one-to-one tutoring sessions as well as larger classrooms, catering to their specific needs and goals. This required communicating clearly with the students to encourage them in their pursuits, build their confidence, and tailor the curriculum to their needs and passions. In addition, I created a curriculum based on the needs of the students. For this, I did extensive research, as well as referred to my background and understanding of disability studies and disability justice. I used Microsoft Excel to organize and manage volunteer and student schedules and update information.

I presented educational workshops regarding sexual health at various different organizations across Toronto. These included on-campus clubs, high schools, offices, and fraternities, among others. I was also involved in creating the presentation, ensuring it contained accurate information that was delivered in an understanding and straightforward fashion. I was a first point of contact for community members who came in to the Sexual Education Centre office looking for supplies, services, or resources. I communicated with a diverse clientele, providing accurate, effective information and assistance in a sensitive and non-judgemental manner.

I assisted the director of the New One program, a program specialized for first years students at the University of Toronto. I worked independently to collect and analyze data regarding the needs of students, making suggestions and adjustments to the program overall to better address these needs. I also compiled data regarding all of the One programs across the University of Toronto in order to identify their shortcomings, their strengths, and potential sites of improvement. I assisted in the planning and execution of the Working For Change conference, which provides students looking for work in the social justice field an opportunity to speak to professionals and develop an understanding of the field.

I created biweekly workshops to 20 first year students based on academic, developmental and social activities to build skills and gain resources for success at the University of Toronto. This role allowed me to support students from diverse backgrounds by assisting them in finding necessary resources, providing emotional support, being consistent and reliable, and actively listening. I created a detailed plan for each session, including the overall goal, specific activities, and planning for potential mishaps, as well as managing a fixed budget. I worked collaboratively with the Assistant Peer Mentor to plan and execute the sessions and manage the students. I ensured the environment was inclusive, equitable, and non-judgemental by providing space for everyone to participate, setting guidelines for acceptable behaviour, and having open communication to ensure everyone feels comfortable.

I was a part of the governing body of the University of Toronto Students' Union (UTSU), ensuring the UTSU is adhering to their goals and serving the students of the University of Toronto. I was a member of the Equity Committee, which runs campaigns, organizes events, and works alongside the University of Toronto Governing Council and administration to ensure all students are treated equitably, addressing issues of equity on and off campus. I worked to improve the sexual violence policy at the University of Toronto, as well as organized workshops and educational material around sexual health and sexual violence. I worked alongside the UTSU Executive members to organize and carry out campaigns, and provided support during ongoing projects. I lobbed on behalf of the Humanities department at the University of Toronto, and attended to the needs of the students within this department.

I assisted the Vice President Equity in the creation and execution of large-scale, equity-based campaigns, workshops, and events. I organized event logistics, created event outlines and promotional material. I also served as a primary point of contact prior to and during events. This role required me to be heavily involved with the University community as well as the larger, social-justice based community in Toronto. I developed great communication skills, communicating clearly and efficiently with community members, students, and faculty through email and phone calls. This role really helped me foster a deeper understanding of equity issues on campus, and tangible ways to approach these issues and work towards a more equitable and safe university. One of the projects I worked on was the creation of the “Equity 101 Guidebook”, which was a comprehensive guidebook to equity-based topics, such as colonialism, disability, and sexuality. It outlines definitions, myths, and provides information, using clear and accessible language for those who are starting to learn about equity-based issues. This position was one that taught me a lot about management, organization, and leadership.

I worked for the Orientation Executive Team for the University of Toronto Students’ Union, which organized the largest Orientation events for the three University of Toronto Campuses. These events included a carnival, a street fair, a parade, and a club night. I spearheaded all creative campaigns by creating and managing all published content (images, videos, and written) on various social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. This required me to work completely independently, so I created my own timeline and ensured the execution of these campaigns with minimal supervision. While working on my independent projects, I worked collaboratively with the other members of my team to execute these large-scale events in a high-stress environment. Worked alongside sponsors to create sponsored posts by ensuring clear and consistent communication, meeting deadlines, and creating unique posts to reflect their individual companies. During the Orientation events themselves, I managed large crowds of students, ensuring their safety, answering questions, and making sure the events were running smoothly. I served as a point of contact for incoming University of Toronto as well as calmly and efficiently solving any conflicts during Orientation.
