Ashok initially joined the private Equities Department at ADIA in September 2000 in the CFO role, in line with his prior finance experience, with the aim of streamlining the back-office functions while familiarizing himself with the world of Private Equity investing, his area of interest. This CFO role involved the development of Investment Guidelines, deciding on appropriate industry benchmarks and determining a reporting framework. During the 2005-07 period, Ashok began conducting due diligence (DD) on co-investments, funds and fund-of-fund opportunities on a global basis under the supervision of the CIO, and presented proposals to the Investment Committee. In 2008, Ashok officially joined the Asia funds team covering regional and country GPs in both the emerging (China, India, SE Asia) and developed (Japan, Korea, Australia) markets. In 2011 Ashok played an instrumental role developing a forward looking strategy for the Asia portfolio with the aim of delivering attractive returns. In 2013, the Asia and RoW (Rest of World) fund teams merged to become the Emerging Markets team, and while Ashok’s knowledge of other markets has grown, his focus and expertise remains the Asia region.
