I am currently a Consultant Molecular Epidemiologist developing novel molecular surveillance tools to decipher the hidden biology and epidemiology of Plasmodium vivax infections, as well as working alongside malaria endemic-country partners to establish in-country molecular surveillance programmes.I was previously a Research Fellow in Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My research encompassed both exploring the genomics and population diversity of malaria parasites in East Africa as well as investigating human host-pathogen interactions, such as the impact malaria parasites are having on the human genome and vice versa.I carried out my PhD at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Nagasaki University School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health. My research project utilised next-generation sequencing techniques as a means to study and understand malaria population genetics in Lake Victoria, as well as develop high throughput techniques useful for disease surveillance in low resource settings.In addition to academic research, I assisted with on-site work in Lake Victoria, Kenya, alongside the JICA SATREPS initiative aimed at achieving a "Malaria Free Kenya".
