Electric Blue was a lighting company that Specialized in LED lighting systems for corporate companies, industrial applications, government projects and so much more. I was the head industrial designer at the company. I managed project that had a degree of complexity, that required an eye for intense detail. In some cases, like Capitec's new head office in Techno Park, I was required to do onsite inspections as there were onsite variations according to architectural plans.I designed lighting systems and lighting products with the use of solid works software. I spent a few months’ stream lining existing lighting product in the liner aluminum range and was able to reduce the cost by almost 20 percent on average.Over the lockdown period I remotely worked on compliance reports (SABS Product Range Reports).This process required in-depth technical drawings of each product in its product range, assembly diagrams / photos and illustrations of how things are wired. I was also in charge of the photometric lab. For ever new product or edited product (PSU resistor values), I was required to install the product on the goniometer and do a lighting analysis. This in-depth analysis would identify: how much flux in 3d geometry would be released, light temperature (Kelvin), lumen per kw/h and more. This information could then be inputted into lighted design software, were accurate lighting interior models could be created.

Manage the design department. Liaise with factory staff to monitor the work flow and productivity. Design custom products for clients such as avant garde furniture,retail products, decorative lighting and laser-cut screens. Company tenders including structural steelwork, staircases, balustrading and water features. Close collaboration on design projects with leading South African architects, interior designers and decorators. 3D renders, full working manufacturing drawings, site visits & inspection. Developed websites for both companies. Startup founded by myself and four fellow CPUT students. Developed the product ONs, a sustainable, wirelessly-charged set of lights. Our responsibilities were shared as much as possible but my focus was on product development/ CAD development as well as online marketing through building a website. I had to learn on the job and it was a fast paced lesson. I ensured all designs and marketing material stayed coherent to the brand; focusing on creating a simple, clean and playful product identity.

This was a incredible experience. I was part of a team of universal access auditors, who were contracted to audit UCT's campuses. We found ourselves in places that once could only wish to see. From the archives in the darkest basements to the chemical / microbiology labs to the roof tops of the tallest buildings. we made sure to audit every. No stair , grab rail, balustrade , light switch , door width went without measuring and mapping. It was a lot of work but completely worth the life experience.

Learnt the art of roasting coffee beans. Its an incredible experience, as the last 5 minutes can change everything. The aromas, oils and bean texture can change in a matter of moments.I operated on the floor, coffee tastings , sales , cashier. I made sure to make every paying customer buzzing with coffee.
