Key projects Selected Project Experience-Development of Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan Monitoring Methods for CMS: Ms. Valentine works on a team that collaborates with CMS on a broad effort to review, analyze, and develop methods and measures to enhance the current tools that CMS uses to monitor Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Prescription Drug (Part D) programs. Ms. Valentine serves as a project coordinator. Her role is to plan and draft communication packages for CMS, review CMS regulation and guidelines, conduct interviews with subject matter experts (SMEs), lead informational conference calls, analyze qualitative data, and write chapters in multiple analyses reports submitted to CMS. -Strategic Innovation Engine (SIE) for CMS:The SIE is an innovative quality improvement engine. The SIE will identify which healthcare practices show significant evidence of success, expand the science of quality improvement, and disseminate what practices work for specific healthcare settings. Ms. Valentine’s role is to design, disseminate, and analyze bimonthly internal surveys. She conducts research for the literature review subtask. As part of her literature review role, Ms. Valentine proposed to include sickle cell disease as part of a special innovation project released by CMS. The topic – Sickle Cell Disease Pain Management in the ED – was accepted and released as an RFP in March of 2016. -Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI): The purpose of the project is to design and conduct monitoring activities and an evaluation for Model 1 of the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Initiative for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). Ms. Valentine researched quality improvement interventions for hospitals based on their Model 1 measures and drew on local and environmental factors that could contribute to outcomes measures.
