He helped clarify performance goals for an SDK that was long in the tooth, ran the project alongside me (sometimes doing my work for me), ensured engineers knew exactly what to and not to do, kept the eye on the numbers we needed to deliver, and took this project over the finish line. While doing all this, he shielded the team from incessant priority shifts and kept the eye on the ball. This is far from the only thing he did, but it captures the gist of working with Ashwin. Ashwin is outspoken (while staying respectful), extremely data-driven (he shepherded a brand new initiative purely from digging into data no one had looked at for three years), advocates for engineering (he was a true partner in ensuring that “tech debt” saw light of day), enthusiastic, inquisitive and curious (his questions cut through the fat), and very open to both giving and taking constructive feedback.
