    • Designed and assembled a scaled model of a tidal current turbine equipped with a stepper motor for rotational speed control and thrust, torque sensors for load measurements.• Employed a motor-controlled turbulence generator to seed in elevated levels of homogeneous and non-homogeneous free stream turbulence into a water tunnel facility to mimic realistic inflow conditions for tidal turbines • Utilized well established active grid operating protocols to alter the level of turbulence intensity and length scales in the generated turbulent flow. • Characterized the performance of the turbine model in laminar and turbulent inflows generated, over a range of operating conditions. • Utilized acoustic doppler velocimeters (ADV’s) and stereo-particle image velocimetry (sPIV) to map the turbulent inflow and wake characteristics downstream of the turbine model. • Performed laboratory testing of hydrofoil sections to assess influence of inflow turbulence on its hydrodynamic performance. • Worked closely with a fellow graduate student in performing a 3D computational analysis of turbine performance and wake characteristics in yawed inflow conditions. • Designed and assembled a test rig to study flow induced motion (FIM) modes, such as galloping and vortex induced vibration of modified circular cylinders. • Tested the influence of an attached strip thickness on FIM modes and their interaction. • Utilized a linear variable differential transducer (LVDT) to capture the dynamic response of the cylinder.• Worked closely with a fellow graduate student to test a range of roughness to thickness ratios of attached strips to decouple the influence of the two constitutive aspects.• Performing Den Hartog criterion-based stability analysis of the different cylinder configurations to assess susceptibility to galloping oscillation.
