For my school Mayo College, Ajmer, have drawn up a detailed concept note, strategy paper, and business and execution plan for setting up a Development Initiative to raise Endowment Funds globally. Projected target is to raise USD 2 million within the first 2 years, with rapid scaling thereafter.

ATREE is a research institution established in 1996, to focus on the application of science to the conservation of nature and the management of natural resources. With an interdisciplinary staff of over 140 persons including more than 35 Fellows and Senior Fellows in natural and social sciences, ATREE is poised to become a regional and global centre in conservation science. As Director, Development, responsible for fund raising, donor relations, and initiating innovative approaches to make common cause with industry.

Thirty years ago Bangalore was truly a Garden City. But even then there were signs that if the haphazard planning which was becoming evident was not ended, and a proper long term plan was not made for ensuring that the natural environmental advantages of Bangalore were carefully dovetailed into the future plans, the city would lose its charm and attractiveness.A group of enlightened citizens including Prof. Satish Dhawan of ISRO, Prof. V. Radhakrishnan, Director, Raman Research Institute, Capt. S. Prabhala, Retd. Chairman, Bharat Electronics Limited, Urmila Devi Kotda Sangani, Justice Bopanna, Mr. David Lobo, Mr. Zafar Fatehally and some others decided to form the Bangalore Environment Trust. This was registered on 15 April 1987, with the following objectives, among others:“To endeavor to achieve and consolidate the rightful position of the public in general to the services to which they are entitled as citizens, and to a healthy environment which is their due as human beings.”

This is a 100-bed eye super specialty hospital with a staff of 120, being the 11th in the Sankara Group and the first in north India, which went “live” on 3rd April 2012. The Sankara Group has a unique “80:20” model, whereby revenues generated by 20% of the “paying patients” are used to defray the running costs of the entire hospital, supplemented by donations. Drew up the launch strategy, and drove operations from day 1 as the CEO. Key achievements in the 1st quarter (April, May, June) were: • Reached average OPD of 70 per day (paying patients), the fastest recorded growth in any Sankara Group hospital• Conducted 100 paid surgeries• Had “Patient Satisfaction Score” exceeding 95%• Held 12 eye screening camps for the rural poor, in remote locations across Ludhiana district• Conducted 3,000 free eye screenings• Conducted 400 free surgeries• Raised over Rs. 2 lakhs through donations• Set up strategic links with multiple sections of the govt. establishment and civil society

Currently, Sankara has 9 institutions across India that offer highly specialised diagnostic & surgical eye care to the visually impaired. By 2020, there would be at least one in every State of India.Sankara has been recognized for quality healthcare with the Asian Hospital Management Award in the years 2008 and 2009, and the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award, 2009 and again in 2010.Over 19 million have benefited from preventive and curative care; over 6,70,000 vision-restoring procedures have been performed till date. Sankara will have the capacity to benefit 1 million people every year by the year 2020.

United Way International is a 5.7 billion dollar charity organization, with a presence in 47 countries. Helped set up the Board as a Founding Director. Stepped down to run the organization as its CEO / Executive Director, from July’08 to June’09. In this capacity:• Got Memorandum of Articles prepared, had the NGO registered, initiated other statutory requirements such as PAN, TAN, 12A, 80G, FCRA, etc.• Defined strategy, set up 8 Programs, and initiated due diligence of prospective recipient NGOs.• Set up the website, developed other collateral, and organized / conducted the first press conference.• Organized first public fund raiser – a Walkathon – reaching out to over 50 companies and raising in excess of USD 16,000.• Arranged pro bono support from 6 organizations, with support valued at over USD 20,000.• Worked with United Way International to raise international funding opportunities in excess of USD 150,000.

MEDICOM is a “high-end” hospital information system Product, with over 140 deployments and a presence in 14 countries. Held global responsibility for business development, which includes marketing and corporate communications. Was elevated to the Board of a Group consulting company.Significant achievements were:• Finalized an alliance for MEDICOM in Malaysia, and an order for 13 hospitals as “Phase I,” in competition with 65 solutions from across the world. (Order value is USD 180 million.)• Closed an order for Africa’s first “paperless and film-less” hospital against global competition, in a “Public Private Partnership” consortium. (A 15 year contract in which the Information Technology component is USD 116 million).• Closed the first sale for MEDICOM in India, to the Sai Baba super specialty hospital in Bangalore.• Authored the company’s “entry strategy” for Europe and North America, with the first sale projected to happen in 2006.• Established “significant relationships” for MEDICOM with : - Oracle - IBM, HP, & Sun Microsystems - Intel• Initiated the organizational positioning exercise, redesigning the website and other company collateral.• Represented Indian Healthcare Informatics and Product verticals as a spokesperson at national and international events, as an active member of various CII and NASSCOM task forces.

Responsible for spearheading Metamor’s presence in Europe. Prior to joining, MGSL had no marketing presence outside of America. Significant achievements were :• Authored the entry strategy for Europe.• Defined business relationship partner model.• Drew up pricing policies.• Closed first deal (USD 250,000) in France, within 3 months of joining… MGSL’s first non-American deal!• Generated “prospective partners” in UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Holland, Sweden, and Ireland.• Raised a “prospect base” of USD 3 million.• Managed re-positioning of MGSL’s business focus worldwide.• Responsible for developing and handling Press and PR strategies for India.

In 13 years with TIL, held various responsibilities as below:• June ’98 to January ’99. As Regional Manager based in Delhi, involved with government liaison as part of the company’s “job rotation” program.• August ’96 to May ’98. As Program Manager for IVR based in Delhi, responsible for the company’s proprietary product. 1997- 98 sales were USD 450,000, a rise of 200 %.• September ’92 to July ’96. As Regional Manager for continental Europe based in Zurich, responsible for business development in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy. Responsible for the full spectrum of business development activities associated with marketing of IT Consulting Services and Products in a European context, such as identifying business opportunities, handling client-proposals / relationships and contracts, setting up appropriate ‘tax efficient’ business and operating structures, employee benefits structure, and liaison with head-office. Set up “Rep. Offices” in Switzerland, Germany, and Italy. Sales crossed USD 2 million, a rise of 400% in less than 4 years.• May ’89 to September ’92. Marketing Support Manager (Worldwide) based in India, responsible for international marketing support.• October ’88 to April ’89. Systems Analyst based in London, associated with the design review of the interface of Unisys’ banking package GWB to S.W.I.F.T.• March ’88 to October ’88. Systems Analyst based in Delhi, for design-review and implementation of an automatic message switching system for the National Airport Authority of India.• January ’87 to March ’88. Marketing Manager – UK and Ireland – based in London, with regional business responsibilities for UK and the Republic of Ireland. Achieved 1987 revenues of USD 1 million.• January ’86 to January ’87. Project Manager, lead a team to design, develop, and install a software package for the financial accounting requirements of Saudia Airlines in Bombay.

Responsible for system design, development, implementation, and user training in functional areas of financial accounting, transport fleet accounting, and payroll.
