UCLA's Cogeneration Power Plant is an exceptionally efficient power plant located on campus that provides electricity, steam, and chilled water to the Ronald Reagan Hospital and UCLA's campus. Two 14.5 Megawatt LM1600 Jet Engines power turbines to produce electricity, but instead of exhausting the heat produced by the natural gas burning combustion turbine generators (CTG's), we harness that heat to produce high pressure, high temperature steam to power another 14 Megawatt Steam Turbine Generator (STG) as well as steam driven Centrifugal Refrigeration Units (CRU's) which cool the campus and hospital. In addition to producing power, the STG has an intermediate pressure steam extraction port which allows us to provide: the hospital with the steam necessarily for instrument sterilization, the campus with the steam needed for research labs, and the steam needed for the heating of both the hospital and campus. The low pressure steam that is exhausted from the STG and from the high pressure steam driven CRU's is further used to power four Absorption Refrigeration Units (ARU's) for campus and hospital cooling. The roof of the plant has 13 Cooling Towers that provide the cooling water needed by the CRU's and the ARU's. As an operating engineer at the cogeneration plant I work in teams of 3 engineers to maintain all of the equipment necessary to provide a continuous supply of electricity, steam, and chilled water to the hospital and campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Specializes in “pumpdown perforating”, a method of utilizing surface pumps to convey explosives down hole through a lateral section of a well so that perforations can be made in the casing in preparation of hydraulic fracturing and production.

After a 3 month intensive Schlumberger training program in Kellyville, Oklahoma I spent an additional 5 months getting hands on training in the Bakken where I learned wireline logging and perforating. After successful completion of controls in Denver Colorado I performed a break out job in May 2013 and then became a wireline supervisor.

Spent 8 weeks training as a field engineer for both open and cased hole wireline segments. Participated in rigging up, logging and operation of wireline tools and wrote a program in excel, using macros, that helped to automate the inventory and pump down packing processes by outputting a list of parts needed when job parameters, such as number of decents and number of guns, were specified in order to save the district time and money.

Composing and mailing thank you letters to donors, tracking the success of donation mailings, and organizing that information in Excel sheets.
