PalmasLab (Research and IT Innovation Lab) focused on developing bottom up solutions for local development using IT and research tools. Training youth on programming, app and web development, participatory-action-research and entrepreneurship to develop location solutions for the urban periphery of FortalezaSetting up partnerships with the academic sector to produce more relevant research on urban periphery (University of Ceara, University of Fortaleza, MIT, Columbia University. Develop Palmap platform together with Colab-MIT and Ashoka Brazil (Grow2Impact) to mobilize and train communities to produce local research. Palmap (palmap.social) is an IT based initiative which aims to empower low-income communities through research.Organized trainings and events that mobilize communities to work on local solutions, such as the “Startup Weekend Changemakers”.

Institutional Representation of Instituto Banco Palmas (IBP). Participated in and spoke at local, national, and global forums organized by civil, academic, public and private sector organizations to disseminate the model of community banking and to explore potential partnerships for IBP Fundraised for IBP via grant writing and networking. Identified and built relationships with potential donors. Coordinated the design and implementation of the pilot phase of E-Dinheiro in Conjunto Palmeiras, community where IBP is located. E-dinheiro is a mobile payments platform owned by IBP which delivers financial services to unbanked population. Led exploration and negotiations for expanding major E-dinheiro partnerships opportunities. Co-wrote Academic Article with 3 researchers: “From Community Bank to Solidarity Fintech: The case of Palmas e-Dinheiro in Brazil" Facilitated research projects about community banking, social currencies with universities and other academic and research institutions (Universidade Federal do Ceará, UniFor, Fundação Getulio Vargas, Columbia University, MIT etc.). Helped partners design the research project, research question, objectives, and introduced them to the communities where they plan to do field work. Organized the 1ost Global Meeting of Solidarity Development Banks in Brazil in September of 2018. www.bancossolidarios.global, as Director of Content and Communications for the event. Organized trainings for local youth on community banks and solidarity economy.

Dedicated to the legacy of activist and scholar Mel King, the Mel King Community Fellows (MKCF) program builds upon a 40-year-old tradition of bridging practice-based knowledge and academic research. The program’s goal is to create a dispersed learning network among the Fellows, who are recognized community leaders with experience in a range of social justice pursuits. Fellows focus on exploring emerging issues in cities and regions, investigating longstanding debates about deepening democracy and improving their understanding of the connections between economic justice and democracy – economic democracy. The 2016-17 Fellowship program at MIT-Colab includes leaders throughout the Americas, who will share their knowledge and experiences from practice and leverage tools and theories from the academy to create collaborative transnational projects.
