My role is to research and develop CSS’s existing gasification, Hydrogen and Carbon Capture technologies. This includes carrying out feasibility studies, troubleshooting and rectifying existing processes, designing new test rigs, creating experimental procedures, carrying out R & D trials, collecting and interpreting data and presenting test results. This also includes providing guidance to the operation team on plant operation with improved procedures.

My role is to be involved in the design, testing, and operation of the entire portfolio of KEW’s technologies, from gasification, cracking to fuel production (distillates using FT) and renewable dimethyl ether (rDME). I’m involved in all aspects of technology development including process design, pilot to demonstration scale testing, plant operation, debugging, process analysis and optimisation, sampling etc.

This work mainly focused on process optimisation and scale-up, and technoeconomic evaluation of sustainable aviation fuel production via TCR® to Jet route. Besides, some work for other projects involved biomass mapping and characterisation in Kenya and studies pertaining to char, gasoline and H2 production. In addition, publishing scientific papers was also part of this role.

This role was funded by European Commission. The aim of this role was to develop a novel process to convert waste biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) via Thermo-catalytic Reforming Technology (TCR®) route – a patented technology by Fraunhofer UMSICHT, Germany. The scope of this work included conceptual studies, lab to pilot scale testing and performance evaluation of TCR® systems, feedstock and product characterisation, and process design/development to upgrade the intermediate product into aviation fuel.FLEX-JET Project - Production of Sustainable Jet Fuel from Waste Biomass (funded by European Commission)
