In short...I am a Journalist-turned-entrepreneur based in SE Asia building fin-tech start-ups in emerging markets. I used to be a TV Producer/Journalist specialising in telling stories on social entrepreneurship, tech and education for some of the world's top broadcasters including Al-Jazeera English, BBC Worldwide, The Guardian, Huffington Post and Bloomberg - much of my work was focused on how tech could build a better world. I'm now trying to see if I can contribute more practically. In 2015 I co-created, developed and produced the 1st-ever Reality TV Show for Regular and Social Entrepreneurs in the Middle East called 'El Mashroua' (AKA: The Project) sponsored by Samsung and Google, with 20-million views it became one of the Top-5 TV Shows on the network - an 'edutainment' project designed to use the power of the mainstream media to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.A key theme across various projects I've worked on has always been: How can the power of the Media and Technology be harnessed to tackle entrenched social + environmental problems? However, if the first decade of my career was largely spent within the media telling these stories - I've recently begun the 2nd phase by getting hands-on in tech and start-ups in Asia, working my way up in a diverse range of roles including Product, Software Development, Business Development, Marketing and Operations across several B2B and B2C companies. I was previously the founder and COO of Paidup (www.paidup.io) - a mobile app in the fin-tech space recently named by E27 as one of the 57 fastest growing start-ups in Asia. (https://e27.co/57-rising-asian-startups-20170216/) I'm currently the CEO of UTAK (www.utak.ph) one of Asia's leading Fin-Tech Cloud POS + Inventory + E-commerce Solutions - helping business owners manage their real-time sales, inventory, employee attendance and more via a SaaS tablet-based product that works on Android, iPads or phones.
