THE STORY OF ME – Polly Outhay, Sr. Marketing Director|CFEI|CBL|NACFF|CRESEverybody has a story and I have mine too and this is how it goes!September 1986 Life in the U.S.AI came to the land of opportunity with my mother, a brother, and two sisters and I am the oldest of four. Being the eldest, I immediately assumed the motherly role at such a noticeably young age, helped my mother taking care of my brother and sisters while she was out making ends meets. My mother was an educator, my father was a colonel and they both strongly believed in education and they had a successful family as a couple in their generation. Shortly after my baby sister was only a month old, my mother became a single parent when my father was taken away from us to a concentration camp for 15 years and life-changing events happened from there. Adopted to a new life in the U.S.A, I attended high school and enrolled in ESL (English as a Second Language). When I was old enough to get a work permit, I started working at fast-food restaurants after school to support my mother financially. Growing up, I did not have a lot and I did not know what it was like to have a teenage life because I always had to work to provide for my family. I was married at an incredibly young age and now celebrated our 29 years wedding anniversary. My husband and I have two beautiful children, 23 and 13. I always have teaching blood in me and teaching financial education begins in my own home where I talk to our children about the Needs vs. Wants. Becoming a CFEI was the most rewarding role as it allows me to teach in my communities where there is a true need for financial education. My recent financial literacy project was in February 2019 at Stonewall Youth Development Center, Concord NC https://financialsecurityfirst.com. It was four days series and I have been teaching the youth at this center three straight years to-date. Witnessing financial illiterate in my own community at such a young age inspired me to be part of healthy change. Today, it is my honor to be able to provide financial knowledge in the community. I learned from my own financial mistakes and I use my financial growing pain in my client's conversation. My focus in client’s financial planning is to properly inform, educate and empower their decisions.
