I am working on modeling of particulate systems with a focus on particle drying and agglomeration in fluidized beds. In detail, Two-Fluid Model (TFM) and CFD-DEM approaches were employed to consider i) particle-droplet interaction, ii) drying from particle surface; and iii) droplet evaporation. In addition, TFM approach was utilized to evaluate the degree of uniformity and well-mixedness in a particulate system to develop a zero-dimensional model for fluid bed coating and drying processes.In parallel, we developed a validated approach to model the fluid bed granulation process based on experimental data. Due to the complexity of granulation system, the involved model parameters were successfully correlated to the relevant operating parameters and the introduced parameter called “degree of wetness”. The validity of the developed model was examined against experimental data. We also developed a validated methodology to reduce the number of experiments required to develop the correlations for the associated model parameters.
