My PhD research focused on the synthesis of novel hydrogen generation and CO2 reduction semiconductors, and on enabling their characterization under real working conditions (i.e. in Operando). In detail, I focused on:- Employing cutting-edge approaches in designing nanostructured metal oxide semiconductors for hydrogen generation and CO2 reduction. The methods I utilized in the process were pulsed laser deposition, spin coating, and ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. - Enabling operando characterization of hydrogen production semiconductors by designing novel aqueous phase reactors (in collaboration with Twente University).- Employing synchrotron-based and lab-based X-ray spectroscopy as well as electrochemical characterization methods to investigate the evolution of the chemical and geometrical properties of the hydrogen generation semiconductors during actual operation conditions (alkaline pH and during chronoamperometry). - Utilizing state-of-the-art femtosecond X-ray absorption and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering techniques at X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs) to investigate the ultrafast charge transfer dynamics and the subsequent ultrafast structural rearrangement in semiconductors.- Disseminating the Ph.D. research results in top scientific journals and at several academic events worldwide. - Supervising several analytical and physical chemistry laboratories and tutorials.

The Master of Science in Nanomaterials is a two-year research-based program that focused on understanding the chemistry and physics of materials in the nanoscale (one-billionth of a meter). These materials have great potential for many chemical fields and industries such as in designing better drilling fluids, improving catalytic performance, and designing better coatings and films. My research during the MSc. focused on understanding the structural dynamics of bimetallic catalysts used in Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis on the atomic scale. The outcomes of this study were disseminated in top scientific journals and in four international conferences. To reach this challenging goal, I employed aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope in combination with electron energy loss spectroscopy (STEM-EELS). I also employed in-situ XRD and in-situ XAS methods during this study.

Employed operando X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopic techniques to conduct nanoscale investigations of the electronic properties and geometrical structure of mono and bimetallic Fischer-Tropsch catalysts during catalyst activation and under Fischer-Tropsch synthesis conditions.

Managed a team of engineers and technicians to design the oil/gas well drilling fluids plan. The plan included the recommendation of the chemical systems and drilling fluids formulas to be employed for well drilling and completion. I was also responsible for supervising the execution of the plan onsite along with other drilling team members. My responsibilities also included the anticipation of possible drilling issues that the drilling team might face and to design and implement preventive measures for these issues using drilling fluids.

- Lead a team of technicians to construct and develop drilling fluid combination, which is one of the most important drilling components and the main responsible for borehole stability while drilling.- Performed daily chemical tests on the constructed drilling fluid during the drilling operation to make sure that it complies with American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications and made the necessary chemical adjustments on the drilling fluid systems during drilling process to achieve optimum drilling performance.- Held frequent sales calls and safety meetings onsite to make sure that the customer and the drilling team fully understand Baroid’s products core advantages and Halliburton safety protocols.

- Worked on enhancing the thermal stability and optical properties of water-based coating products.- Implemented environment-friendly resin and pigment components in the coatings, which are compatible with GMP and (EC) No 2023/2006 regulations.- Communicated the coatings research projects with the sales and marketing departments.- Responded to the customers’ technical feedback and requirements.

- Carried out validation quality testing to confirm the compatibility of the pharmaceutical clean room and chemical laboratories with the ISO 17025 (chemical labs) and ISO 14644 (clean rooms) standards. - Participated in projects acquisition proposals and marketing campaigns.

Worked as a sales representative during summers at Tamimi Stores. My daily hob responsibilities involved making sales calls of the stores products and sell them. In spite of the brief period of my work at Tamimi (only summer), it left a lasting positive impact on my ability to handle multiple customers simultaneously and to handle different tasks while under pressure. These skills proved to be vital for me in the other subsequent positions.

This job was very important for me since I was able to handle multinational customers for the first time and to offer the shop's products in different languages other than my mother tongue.
