About Aaron Smith

Over the past 25+ years I have enjoyed a successful career in sales, operations and business unit management, both in NZ and the UK, across a variety of industries including recent senior leadership roles in both software, insurance, financial services and innovation.I am passionate about the role and influence that good strategic planning, leadership, culture and change management plays in organisations, particularly in a sales and service environment. I enjoy the challenge of building and growing capability across large teams to create a strong customer-centric service culture, as well as the responsibility of developing and motivating people towards their personal and professional goals. I am highly motivated, ambitious and career orientated, with a strong strategic and commercial awareness and drive for achievement. My professional success across a variety of sales and operations roles has always centred on the ability to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with customers, partners and key stakeholders and I have taken this same approach into business unit and general management.I have also accomplished several personal and academic achievements to support my industry experience in recent years. In 2012, I completed an MBA (majoring in strategy and leadership) through the University of Canterbury. This included being awarded the University Prize in Commerce and the Guardian Trust Master’s Scholarship in Commerce as the top master’s student in the College of Business and Economics. I was also named NZI Leader of the Year in 2013, in my first year with IAG.I have been a member of both the Institute of Directors in New Zealand and New Zealand Institute of Management and Leadership. I have recently served on the Board of Trustees for Thorrington School and as a Trustee for CoCA the Centre of Contemporary Art here in Christchurch. I am currently an intern director on the board of MainPower as a winner of the Institute of Directors Emerging Director Award.
