About Dr. Asm Shakil Haider
Dr. ASM Shakil Haider completed his PhD in Applied Economics (Summer, 2021) from Texas Tech University, USA. His dissertation focuses on economics of crime and immigration. Specifically, the dissertation investigated the impact of different immigration policies on crime and its spillover. Currently, Dr. Haider is an Assistant Professor of Economics at BRAC University.Dr. Haider earned his MA in Economics degree from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), USA in December, 2011. Furthermore, he completed his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from North South University, Bangladesh with Magna Cum Laude Distinction (majors: Finance, Economics) in the year of 2009.Dr. Haider had the chance and honor to work with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on his concept of Microfinance and Social Business. Inline with such interests, Dr Haider was in HEC-Paris (France) as a Visiting Scholar for the Social Business Certification Program from April 2013 to June 2013. He also received a research grant to conduct an independent research on “Intellectual Capital Disclosure Practices of Financial Institutions in Bangladesh”.Regarding prior work experience, Dr Haider worked as a Graduate Research Assistant, Graduate Instructor and Teaching Assistant at Texas Tech University. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Dr Haider worked as a Graduate Researcher of Economics at University of Southampton, UK (funded by Economic & Social Research Council, UK). Furthermore, he has the experience to work as a Lecturer of School of Business & Department of Economics at North South University, Bangladesh for 2 years. He also worked for the Department of Economics & Social Sciences (ESS) of BRAC University as a Lecturer (III) from January, 2014 to August, 2014.
