I do data engineering and data science work, primarily involving the acquisition, feature engineering, and analysis of textual data sources. These include spreadsheet scale, database scale, and cluster (Spark) scale data sources. This includes the complete data lifecycle, involving the data science skill set around analytical modeling, the data engineering skill set around acquisition, feature engineering, and transformation of data sources for performance and to prepare them for modeling, and the data management skill set around designing data to be a reliable source of truth for the business process.

My interest is in the organizational transformation to analytic competition. In support of one component of analytic competition, I have conceived of, designed, deployed, and am teaching an Introduction to Data Mining class that has been well received.I have applied statistical and mathematical techniques to guide the development of a predictive model. The predictive model is also within the IT subject area and is used to identify and anticipate the issues that give rise to phone calls to the help desk and is in support of improving the (ITIL) problem management process.

Member of a team of software and system engineers and architects responsible for implementing a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) infrastructure for Intel. As a team, this included everything from specification of standards, development of sample implementation code, message bus, service registry / repository, and helping / training development teams adopt and implement SOA in their development practice. As Data Architect on the team, my responsibilities focused on Service Contract design and development, the structure and format of service messages (leading us into Canonical Modeling), and appropriately scoping individual services to avoid overlap or missed areas of responsibility (Service Portfolio Planning).

Responsibilities included ‘soup to nuts’ support of various database systems and technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata), including everything from early system design and architecture work for major upgrades to applications, and acting as the ‘face of IT’ with the development team. Activities included developing scripts used to keep the development, test, and production databases synchronized with each other and the data model, release planning and coordination for database changes, enforcement of the data model driven environment in the development community, implementation of new business process and tool for stored procedure deployment, engineering of new databases/applications taking into consideration size of data sets, legal compliance requirements, performance, and maintenance of the resulting database. Also engaged in troubleshooting the different database management systems and related application problems in production and development, and production / on-call support.

Member of a team of server administrators responsible for Netware 4.1 and then NT 3.5 / 4.0 servers. Member of the corporate wide project tasked with migrating the company from Windows 3.1 to NT Workstation on the desktop, and NT Server on the backend. Specific duties included: support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the NDS tree, upgrading Netware 3.11 servers to 4.1, migrating Banyan Vines and Netware servers to NT 3.51, and on-call support for production systems.
