Having entered the Bar in 1987, as an Attorney-at-Law, I later joined the Attorney Generals Department in 1988 as a State Counsel, following which I joined the Private Bar in 1993 and commenced my legal practice.I have established a successful practice of over 37 years with the Private Bar, engaging in criminal law as well as in other areas of law; industrial and labour disputes, customs and tax related disputes, bribery and corruption cases, civil and commercial litigation and arbitration.I have appeared for cases in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Civil High Courts, the Criminal High Courts, the Commercial High Courts, the District Courts and the Magistrates Courts as well as in Labour Tribunals, heading a varied and a multi-disciplined practice.During my lengthy legal career, I have had the privilege of training over 100 junior lawyers in my chambers, who have appeared as junior counsel under my purview and supervision. Of these, several are currently serving as Magistrates, District Judges and High Court Judges.I have represented and continue to represent several leading companies in Sri Lanka and many other international clients in criminal and civil disputes. I have also handled human rights, religious liberty and other rights cases for various local and foreign organisations.
