At Kempster, Corcoran, Quiceno & Lenz-Calvo, I focused on providing immigration legal support for consular-processing cases. Here, I assisted with filling out and preparing a wide-arrange of cases: K-1 visas, I-130 Alien Relative petitions, I-601A Application for Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver, Immigrant Visa Applications [Packet 3], and consular-interview preparation. Furthermore, I provided in-depth Spanish breakdowns for each application process to our clients to ensure that clients were up-to-date with the application being filed, while also explaining processing times to avoid confusion in the trajectory of their case. I contacted clients to follow up with missing documents, to renew previously submitted documents to avoid any delay in their applications, and to provide case updates. I assisted with document translation in the following official documents: Birth, Marriage, Divorce decree, Death Decree, School [high school and college] degree certificates, including letters to clients. Routinely checked the case status of my assigned caseload [150+] to approximate estimated times for case approval, including Consular Electronic Application Center [CEAC] to submit additional/revoked documents for immigrant visa applications.

Served as an immigration paralegal intern at Immigrant Worker Project. Here, I assisted with translation services for Spanish intakes for English native-speaking interns. Additionally, I conducted solo-interviews with asylum seekers to complete I-589 petitions with attorney review. On special occasions, I provided in-person translation for medical appointments and urgent hospital visits, while also ensuring clients would not be forced to comply with work after suffering critical injuries requiring substantial at-home care or days-off from work. Moreover, I also assisted with filling out the change of address forms to be submitted to USCIS. Clerical tasks: contacted clients for case follow-up, scheduled appointments, and to request missing documents/information for their I-589 applications. I updated our firm's database for arriving mail from DHS/USCIS pertaining to work permits, green cards, and case results. Routinely contacted clients who haven't been in touch with the firm in a period of time. Handled sensitive information, and official documents, and translated official documents ranging from birth certificates to marriage certificates to name a few. I also created a safe space for sexually-abused victims to openly discuss tragic events in order to provide more appropriate legal support. Conducted and participated in community outreach pertaining to 'Know Your Rights' events, in conjunction with local partnered medical facilities that provided low-cost medical support to immigrant communities. Overall, this internship equipped me with ample skills to approach unexpected and complex immigration cases, while also strengthening my commitment to serve our undermost-underrepresented migrant communities. I was exposed to a wide-range of labor abuse tactics against H-1B and H-2B visa holders, including asylum seekers and those without status at the hands of large meat-factories and agricultural sectors.

Completed an in-depth 125-page research analysis on the effects of ICE's heightened presence in Immigrant communities by understanding the effects on non-profit and community-based service providers. This research project began in January 2020 taking full effect in February 2021 with interviews. By April 2021, I had interviewed 4 organizations ranging from educational services to DACA-focused organizations to a male-defense attorney. Set-up:1. Approached the project by focusing on an in-depth research analysis of existing ICE forms of operation, including DHS forms of operations and programs. 2. Due to technological restrictions in interviewing immigrant-populations, this project focused on understanding how community-based service providers have been impacted by ICE's form of operations--focusing on ICE's heightened presence in immigrant communities.3. Over 100 organizations were emailed and cold-called to participate in this study--thereby resulting in 4 participating organizations ranging from a wide-diversified forms of service provision.5. Under the guidance of Dr. Corral, interview questions were developed and approved for this study. 6. The participating organizations received a scheduled appointment over zoom for the interview, including an engagement agreement form.7. After interview collection, I transcribed all interviews and summarized responses.8. Created and analyzed contents to be reflected on a table diagram.Findings: Service providers are indirectly affected by ICE's heightened presence in immigrant communities by forcing a need to address deportation and arrest cases. In effect, most organizations' resources must redirect their budgets and service provision to provide relief to suffering families. Moreover, this research focused on the outlook of ICE's presence in immigrant communities during the pandemic, which provided a better understanding of the many ways that our immigrant communities remain resilient throughout evident fear.

For the summer of 2018, I worked as a research assistant for the Political Science department. Our research project focused on conducting interviews about the immigrant Latinx community that resides in Ohio. We conducted interviews door-to-door in collaboration with the Immigrant Worker Project (IWP) which is a non-profit organization that brings legal services to the immigrant community in Ohio by serving the Latinx community. Furthermore, we provided people with vital information about their legal rights should ICE/immigration officers ever stop them outside/inside their homes, which also enabled us to set a strong trust foundation between IWP and the immigrant community during a crucial time of frequent raids. Thus, in collaboration with Denison University, Kenyon College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and 20 total researchers, we were able to collect and conduct nearly 400 interviews. However, for the Wooster team, this project was extended for another semester, where we transcribed interviews and compiled data from various sources.
