I currently work as one of three Presidential Scholars at the University of North Carolina System Office under the Office of the President. Throughout the year, I will complete rotations through the various offices within the UNC System, including Academic and Legal Affairs, Strategy and Policy, and Government Relations. In this role, I assist with a variety of projects, events, and research in each rotation, such as organizing materials and supplies for Board of Governors meetings. In addition to daily tasks, this internship will provide me with a plethora of professional development opportunities, including "Lunch and Learn" sessions with different employees within the UNC System Office. I hope to gain transferrable skills, such as data analysis and public writing (speech writing, publications, etc.) throughout this experience, making me a well-rounded candidate for law school and any course of graduate study.

I was selected to serve as a volunteer committee member on the Mission Committee and Extension Subcommittee of the Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society and Educational Foundation Board of Trustees for 2024-25. The committee meets online quarterly and is responsible for "strategically addressing matters related to extension, maintaining standards of membership, and coordinating the annual review of the ODK Policies and Procedures Handbook."

I served as the 2023-2024 Student Body President and ex-officio member of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke's Board of Trustees. Together with SGA Vice President Magally Ortiz-Rojas, I worked to advocate for students in academic and social spaces and bridge the gap between the student body, administrators, and community members/organizations. Our vision, the United We S.O.A.R. (Succeed, Own it!, Affect, and Rise) platform, guided our commitment to creating positive change on and off campus during our administration. In this term, SGA brought back the campus Safety and Accessibility Walk, held its 3rd Annual Mental Health Awareness Week, and received a record number of responses on surveys conducted by the Association of Student Governments. This role not only honed my communication and organization skills, but - due to the unfortunate loss of two students from gun violence on and near campus - allowed me to practice crisis management and learn what it means to be both a professional and an advocate for students.

As a junior, I worked at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s Office for Community and Civic Engagement (CCE) to develop service-learning courses through the Brave Experience, our university’s student engagement model. This focus on service-learning as a method to engage and retain students led to myself and a co-worker presenting at the Impact National Conference at UMass Amherst in 2023. Additionally, I helped further the growth of the Service-Learning Academy, a partnership between faculty and student mentees. I also provided assistance and served as a liaison between CCE and the faculty mentors, their students mentees, and community partners throughout the development and completion of their service-learning projects. In my second year as the Service-Learning intern, I moved away from building out the Academy and focused more on finding and establishing connections with community partners for professors teaching service-learning courses. Additionally, I worked with the university's Career Center to highlight the benefits of service-learning as an experiential learning opportunity through the inaugural "Experiential Learning Showcase."

I served as the Chief of Staff for the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I planned and ran the weekly executive team meetings, and I was responsible for checking in with the committee chairs as they planned events, wrote legislation, and managed their committee members. Overall, I helped the President and Vice President push their platform and vision by editing and reviewing legislation and facilitating meetings. I also planned and hosted SGA's 2nd annual Mental Health Awareness Week, an initiative I started as the SGA Student Affairs Chair.

I worked as a Resident Advisor in two residence halls and one apartment complex at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. It was my responsibility to ensure our residents had an educational and enjoyable living experience on campus. I made personal connections with each of my residents and co-workers while building upon my communication and administrative skills to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students. I also hosted a variety of social and academic events and created engaging, educational bulletin boards to create a sense of community and belonging amongst students.

I served as the Student Affairs Chair in the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I was responsible for coordinating events and elevating the voice of the student body in all student affairs related concerns. I hosted two Art Nights in partnership with the university's Art Club and sponsored two pieces of legislation, which were later passed by our Senate. After the Mental Health Awareness Week Act passed unanimously, a piece of legislation I authored, I planned and created events for a week of mental health awareness to connect students with resources on and off campus and provide relaxing outlets for students to decompress as they approached exam week. Over 200 students attend my committee's events throughout the school year, and Mental Health Awareness Week has now become an annual week of events hosted by SGA in the spring semester.

I worked as a Teaching Assistant for an Environmental Science class at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The class was an online course with a service-learning component. I was responsible for updating the Canvas page and evaluating and grading the students' service-learning projects and correlating assignments.

I completed a summer internship at Legal Aid Justice Center through the University of Virginia Law School Roadmap Scholars Initiative, where I observed and supported the Youth Justice Program team. In this role, I attended various court hearings and assisted in brief and memo writing for one case concerning a student with an Individualized Education Plan. Additionally, I helped research evacuation plans and methods for an attorney working on a case concerning schools with outdated emergency evacuation plans for students with special needs. I was also able to learn from and engage with the community as I attended LAJC's various community outreach events, including an organization fair where we shared information on LAJC's services with local residents.
