Growing up, my father gave me two pieces of advice every day before I would walk out the door and head to school. His advice was to be conscious of my surroundings and to always do the right thing. At the time, I just brushed it off as dad mumbo-jumbo and went about my days. Today, these two sentiments have helped me better myself as a person and further my professional career more than I could have imagined. Having these goals engrained in me so early has shaped the person I have become today in more ways than one. Being aware of my surroundings has helped me in the literal sense in some situations but it also means that I am able to read people and how they are feeling in most interactions. This talent allows me to connect with almost anyone at any given time so I can create meaningful interactions with these people. Having this skill has been a tremendous help, being in the communication field. I have applied these mantras in my previous jobs and have used these skills to my advantage to connect with the individuals at my current job, which has opened up numerous doors for my career. Always doing the right thing can sometimes be tricky, but in the end, it is always rewarding. Yes, this is something we all learn as children and usually master by the age of 12, but it has lent itself to many different situations in my life and has helped me reach the point I'm at now. I am always striving to do the right thing, to make the right choice, to achieve the most I can. All these things require that I do the initial right thing and plan for the things to come. I pick the right people to connect with, plan for events, manage all the things on my plate, make decisions that impact others, help others and myself to reach our full potential. The decisions I make in all these circumstances require that I do the right thing, and that has impacted me more than any other action I've ever had to practice. Doing so has allowed me to become a successful writer, entrepreneur, communicator, employee, friend, mentor, daughter, human, and so much more. So thanks dad, I owe it all to you.
