I’m Aster Van De Vijver, a motivated and enthusiastic final-year Master’s student in Bioscience Engineering at the University of Ghent, specializing in ‘Cell and Gene Biotechnology’. With a fascination for the medical aspects in biotechnology, I am eager to expand and apply my knowledge and skills in this fast-evolving field, particularly in areas like genetics, diseases, antibodies and beyond. Currently, for my thesis, I am working on the development and production of synthetic nanobodies. For this, I make use of different techniques such as cell transformation, phage display and biopanning. The objective is to identify an effective binder for a specific antigen/protein and enhance its binding affinity. This approach can be employed to improve disease detection, imaging, and holds potential for therapeutic applications.As I approach the end of my academic education (June 2024), I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. I am ready for new opportunities and available to embark on these next challenges in my journey.
