As a degree apprentice, my time throughout the week is split between university and work.My role is quite flexible as although my focus is in software development, I've been able to assist with other areas of the business such as networking and cyber security.Primarily, the development side of the role is creating bespoke modifications of the SageX3 system for clients. This can cover any part of the system which has given me an understanding of all areas of business that I don't interact with usually. Additionally, I work on internal development projects to help improve the business' efficiency and to help promote the recent 'TREE Imitative'.

At Waitrose, my primary role was within Food Service, working on the meat, fish, cheese, and deli counters.This role has a particular focus on Customer Service, helping customers to select the best products for their needs, and providing advice on different ways to cook and serve the product they have selected. Communicating clearly and effectively with customers was important to make sure they were not overwhelmed by the choices available. Due to the diversity of customers at Waitrose, adapting my language to the specific customer was key.Time management was another key focus for this role as setting up, maintaining, and shutting down the counters all took a significant amount of time. Throughout the day, making sure that the counter stayed presentable, both at the front and in the working area behind was important as customers had an clear view of both.
