Dr. Beniquez is originally from Puerto Rico and lived in South Florida as well growing up. Dr. Beniquez completed her pre-veterinary undergraduate education (B.S. in Microbiology and Cell sciences, 2015) and then completed a Masters degree (M.S. Veterinary Forensics, 2017) at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Throughout her education, she worked as a veterinary assistant and eventually a technician in a very busy multi-location animal hospital system. As an applicant to veterinary school, she volunteered with cats, dogs, and some exotic animals in urgent care, teaching hospital, and shelter environments for years in Gainesville, FL and surrounding areas. She then made the move to NE hilly rural Tennessee when she accepted a seat as a veterinary student at Lincoln Memorial University Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Beniquez graduated in May 2023 with high honors (magna cum laude). During the clinical year, she was awarded the ACVIM clinical excellence award in small animal medicine during her clinical year rotations. She completed a rotating internship at VCA Regional Institute of Veterinary Emergency and Referral RIVER in Chattanooga, TN and is currently completing a Surgical Specialty Internship at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, FL. She aspires to pursue additional training to become a multifaceted small animal surgeon with special training in soft tissue techniques and oncology care. Dr. Beniquez speaks English and Spanish fluently and some Italian and French. She enjoys reading new books, trying new foods, playing guitar and sketching in her spare time. She has four well fed cats. Despite pursuing a career in specialty medicine, Dr. Beniquez strongly believes in incremental accessible care, providing options, and having affordable care available to people, and has an interest in possibly working in a non-profit space as an ultimate goal and getting more involved in research some day.

In these positions, I assisted in restocking, animal restraint, cage clean up, and simple procedures such as placing monitors, monitoring anesthesia, and transporting patients to the OR. Daily safety tasks include checking breathing circuits, checking anesthesia machines, replacing E-tank Oxygen canisters, and also brief and small amounts of patient care of recovering patients.
