I am the Education Outreach Officer & Digital Skills Developer for Software Cornwall. Since Sept 2017 to Jan 2022 I have given career assemblies to over 23,000 students in nearly every secondary school in Cornwall. Ran workshops to 2250 students, assisted with work experiences for over 400, and Tech Jams for over 750. And attended 75+ careers fairs around the county. During the Lockdowns I redeveloped Software Cornwall's Mission to Mars work experience offer, taking it completely online. This ran it twice during the summer of 2020 to 30 students from Cornwall and Scotland while still enabling them to work full time in teams. Then again in 2021. Over 60 students from around the country were able to fully experience the event remotely.I am also developing a new Gateway into Tech with the partially funded ESF Business Clusters program. This is to find new sources of tech talent for the industry and provide them with initial training.I started using my teaching and computer skills in helping people locally with problems they have with technology of their own. Sorting out mostly computing issues the public have. As previously an Adult Education Tutor teaching Astronomy I have the experience to be able to pass on complicated issues easily. Simple issues for most of us can completely stump others and help is hard to find if nothing is actually broken. I'm no IT geek or wizard but it's how to explain the answer clearly that is the solution.I also completed an Open Degree in Natural Sciences with The Open University as a mature student in 2016. I'm a STEM Ambassador also helping out when I can at other events around Cornwall.

The school has excellent IT facilities and coding was already part of their curriculum but we thought we could take it further with those who showed promise. Very exciting time as getting your pictures processed in only an hour was still a very new thing. The queues in the summer months were amazing. Became Manager of the new Woking branch after just over a year of joining from school. State of the art lab at the time and used as a model lab by the machine manufacturers.
