Medicinal Chemistry , Cancer and Antiviral Research.Lead the design and synthesis of a chromenopyrazole which has shown excellent antiviral activity against alpha-viruses. Collaborated with biology team on the synthesis of nucleoside analogs with fluroquinolones as an effective combination in the treatment of viruses such as denge, west nile. Worked on the synthesis of analogs of HPY flurophore dyes that are used in imaging studies of cancer cells.

Taught Organic chem courses and Lab for undergraduate students and have made demonstration videos on lab experiments and posted them on youtube for the benefit of student community which has generated good reviews and I have been awarded the outstanding graduate teaching assistant award for my teaching work.My graduate thesis is on the studies of cyclopentadienones, benzothiazines and sulfoximines.I have developed a mild condition for the N-acylation of sulfoximines using Boric acid catalysis .I have studied the copper catalysis of ortho-halosulfoximines that resulted in a novel benzothiazine which has shown interesting fluoroscent properties. I have also studied the palladium catalysis of ortho-halosulfoximines to form N-arylated sulfoximines and ortho-halo benzothiazines.I have studied the control required for the intermolecular stereoselective michael addition of N-arylated sulfoximines, namely Lithium cation with several additives. I have expanded the scope of a carbon-carbon -anion relay chemistry by facile generation of allyl lithium species.I have contributed in the expansion of the scope of a novel endo 1, 5 migration that results in intramolecular redox reaction and C-H activation. I have studied the generation of fleeting intermediate cyclopentadienone and its use in the formation of Diels-Alder adduct.

As a research officer in a CRO in India, I worked as a FTE for BMS and Dow Agro sciences for 2 years in designing and synthesizing heterocycles such as benzodiazepine derivatives. All derivatives were 5-6 multi step synthesis including C-N bond formation, peptide chemistry, acylation, reductions and oxidations, t-BuLi, n-BuLi, MeLi reactions, and palladium-catalyzed reactions. I have dispatched /shipped 6-7 products from milligram to multi-gram quantities above 97-99 % HPLC & NMR purity for SAR studies from India to US.

Developed Skills as synthetic organic chemist

As part of my summer fellowship through Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore , I carried out research in the field of heterogeneous catalysis at National Chemical Laboratory, Pune in Dr.S.Shivasankar`s Catalysis group. I and Dr. Venkatathri Narayanan studied the physico-chemical characteristics of metal containing alumino phosphates. We adopted a template to synthesize a Cobalt containing alumino phosphates and tested their redox chemistry by oxidizing ethyl benzene. The results of their physico-chemical characterization of the new materials were published in 2004 through two journal articles.
