About Athanasios Fotis
I am a holder of a BSc in Physics and MSc degrees in Medical Physics and in Clinical Science (streamed to Bioinformatics). I have also been a registered clinical scientist, having completed a three-year training programme of work-based learning in Nottingham University Hospital, NHS. The experience I have earned as clinical scientist in the NHS has provided me with the necessary skills needed to have a solid understanding in the rapidly evolving field of computer science and bioinformatics, as well as interacting with diverse stakeholders. I have done research work in the field of medical imaging having developed a strong background in data analysis and machine learning methods. In previous jobs, I have been also involved in projects that aim to provide innovation through the exploitation of real-world data and the use of advanced analytics, machine learning and AI in Healthcare. In my current job as data scientist within a bioinformatics team, I am involved in the development, quality assurance and maintenance of software for medical genomics tests that screen for health conditions, such as genetic predisposition to diseases and response to medications.Passionate, pro-active, and with excellent interpersonal skills, I successfully build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality delivery of my own projects, as well as business objectives. I approach all my work with discipline and focus as shown by my excellent academic and work-based performance. I am very creative and regularly try to develop all kinds of ideas about everything I am engaging with.
