Since February 2010 he is with the Department of Electronics Engineering of the School of Technological Applications of Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki (ATEITH), first as an Assistant Professor and next (since October 2015) as an Associate on “Wireless communications with emphasis on mobile communication systems”. He is the Departmental Coordinator of Erasmus+ program since September 2010 and a member of ATEITH Institutional Erasmus Coordinating Committee since April 2011. He teaches the courses “Wireless Communication Systems”, “Signal Processing”, “Mobile Communication Systems” and “Technical Writing and Presentation”. In addition, he is co-lecturing the course “Research Methods”, of the M.Sc. program on “Web Intelligence” offered by the Department of Informatics Engineering of ATEITH. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1994, and the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE) since 1995. He is a member of Editorial Board of Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies (Wiley) journal since May 2013, and an Editor of IEEE Communications Letters since May 2015. He has served as a member of Technical Program Committees (TPC) in several international conferences (regularly in ICC and GLOBECOM) and as a TPC co-chair for CAMAD 2015 and ICT 2016 Conferences. His main research interests lie in the area of modulation methods, source and channel coding techniques, wireless multiple access techniques, radio resource management and performance evaluation of 3G, 4G and 5G mobile communication systems. He has co-authored over 35 papers in international journals, conferences and chapters in international books. He was awarded with the Best Paper Award in ISCC 2011 conference and he has given (in cooperation with colleagues) 2 tutorials on new 802.11 wireless technologies, in ICT 2014 and GLOBECOM 2014 conferences.

From October 1999 to February 2010 Athanassios Iossifides was with COSMOTE Mobile Telecommunications S.A., first as a telecom engineer in radio network and transmission systems. In March 2004 he was assigned the leadership of the Access and Transmission Network Team and in March 2008 he was assigned the position of the Manager of the Network Management Section of North Greece. While with COSMOTE S.A. he participated in 3 internal projects regarding transmission network redundancy, in the evaluation team of 3G mobile communications system suppliers (2003), in the evaluation and testing team of HSDPA (2006) and a lot of other technical projects. Moreover, he participated in numerous company procedural optimization projects, as a project manager in a certain number of them. He attended 24 technical trainings and 3 trainings for personnel management and leadership and he organized (in cooperation with HR) and lectured 8 internal technical trainings in transmission systems and 3G mobile systems. In this context, he wrote two technical training textbooks on 3G and WCDMA.
