Development of Sustainable Smart & Living Materials. We have developed a plantable cellular material (foam) that biodegrades naturally and transformed into plants. This material presents tailored properties and can replace conventional plastic foams, such as polystyrene and other plastics, in order to create edible or other plants instead of microplastics. We target mainly the packaging industry.

-Bio-inspired responsive materials with electrical storage and sensing capabilities: a pathway to autonomous materialsThe INTEGRAL project envisions to pave the way for the development of active smart materials with integrated electrochemical cells, mechanosensation & thermosensation functionalities, in order to respond (change their shape) to an external force or to interact with physical objects, and also control their temperature. The shape of these smart materials is programmable, reprogrammable on-demand, or self-reprogrammable after a critical event (self-adaptation). They could find applications mainly in Space industry and electronics where the weight and volume reduction are imperative.

In PHEE Company, we develop unique & highly aesthetic bio-based composite materials using natural fillers. We target mainly the interior design of building sector.

We develop FEM and analytical multiscale methodologies using various micromechanical models for the prediction of the thermo-mechanical properties mainly in CMCs, as well as in OMCs. We calculate from micro to macro-scale the thermo-mechanical properties, taking into consideration the real microstructure and the weave of different fabrics. Development of algorithms for RVEs generation and study of thermal phenomena in nano-composites for advanced thermal properties.
