I support the Conflict of Interest Program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center by maintaining the daily operations, manage associated activities, coordinate operational aspects of the program, serve as a COI subject matter expert to the Fred Hutch research community on matters relating to conflict of interest requirements, completing and reviewing proposal submissions, COI reviews, disclosure reviews, requests for prior approvals, and managing all IT system related issues. I have collaborated with internal team members, departmental teams, and outside vendors on projects, workflow improvements and our COI reporting system. Successes include presentation outreach to our faculty members on our COI reporting system, creating internal COI SOPs and job aids, updating and creating content on our internal COI Office’s web page and collaborating with our internal departmental teams on process improvement on shared workflows.

I initially started as a HIM Specialist then promoted to become the Subject Matter Expert and transitioned to Release of Information Specialist. These roles allowed me to collaborate on projects and workflows. I closely worked with internal team members, clinical care teams, cross functional departments, leadership and outside organizations. I was accountable for writing, maintaining Standard Operational Policy and Procedure documents, processed record releases and served as a subject matter expert for the Pediatric/Adult Bone Marrow Therapy, Immunotherapy and Long Term Follow Up care teams. Major achievements include implementing and documenting a Standard Operational Policy and Procedure documents/job aids for the entire department, streamlining HIM’s records release processes to Data Management which resulted in the efficiencies of release turnaround time and adoption of organization’s new electronic health system. I also worked on the HIM Weekend Holiday Training. This rotation helped distribute the schedule evenly and allowed staff to learn other HIM skills outside of their traditional roles.

I assisted in daily housekeeping duties as well as educating her on the importance of self-care. During my care, my client was able to address her health concerns and made drastic improvements to her health.
