I arrive at the assigned school early to read over classroom teachers plans. I facilitate the plans throughout the day and assist the students with any issues that may arise. I use clear expectations with the students so they know the behaviour I expect throughout the day. I create a safe learning space by discussing growth mindset and encourage students who make mistakes to try again. I model the behaviour I expect in the classroom to assist in a safe learning environment.

I entered this assignment after the class had not had a teacher for a few months. I ensured to give the students clear expectations of the behaviour and work quality I expected from them. During my time here, I created structure and consistency the students needed in order to be successful in their learning. In addition, I filled gaps in their learning before my time ended in the middle of June by using cross-curricular lessons to ensure everything was covered. I also prepped and tutored my grade 6 students for EQAO and helped them navigate the new testing systems.

As an occasion teacher, I arrive to the school early and read the plans left for the classroom teacher. I follow school protocols and rules throughout the day. In addition, I facilitate lessons to the students and assist in their learning throughout the day.

During this position, I created and facilitated lessons in all subjects. I focused on classroom management during my time here. I used a variety of approaches-positive reinforcement , where I would highlighted good behviour and rewarded it. In addition, I modeled the behaviour I expected from my students when they feel frustrated or upset throughout the day.

During this position I created and implemented engaging lessons for all subjects for a grade 4/5 class. I focused on inquiry based learning where students were able to become active participants in their lessons and projects. In addition to this, I created and implemented programming for two children diagnosed with autism and severe behavioural issues. I approached the behavioural issues with a calm and empathic approach and was able to push for a variety of teams to get involved in order for the student to find success within the classroom.

All Saints

During this assignment, I created and facilitated engaging lessons for the following subjects: language, math, history, geography, physical education and religion/ family life. My students participated in many hands-on activities, creative expression opportunities and inquiry based learning. (Genius Hour, Podcast Creation Project, various science experiments) During my time here, I had to adjust my teaching style to fit the Hybrid learning model being implemented due to COVID-19 and remote learning. I gained a cast knowledge in google classroom and other virtual learning devices/programs. I supported my students and their families during these trying times and assisted where I could in order to make the changes easier.

St. Ursula

During this position as a planning time teacher I created and facilitated engaging lessons for dance, visual art and physical education/health for the primary-junior grades. I used an empathetic approach to my teaching and encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones in order to excel in these subjects. I used a variety of classroom management styles-zones of regulation and positive reinforcement, throughout my time here. In addition, due to COVID and a shortage of supply teachers, I made myself available to assist in covering different homeroom classes within the school. I supplemented and stepped in frequently to teach the grade 7/8 class throughout the length of my L.T.O.

St. Ursula Catholic Elementary School

During the time of this L.T.O I was in charge of creating and facilitating lessons for students whose second language was English as well as core French lessons. Throughout this placement, I gave students clear and concise expectations of behaviour and work being done for these classes. I provided my students with descriptive feedback in order for them to apply the concepts of growth mindset and allow them to grow within their academic careers. In addition, I used student interests and strengths in order to assist them in growing their vocabulary and grammar in both French and English.

During my time with Rosethorn Before and After Care I was given a special designation from the Ministry of Education in order to stand in as an ECE. I was in charge of creating programming for the students to participate in after the school day. I ensured all of the Ministry expectations were being met and implemented through the day.
