About Atsumi Araki

After working for Nissan Motor as a marketing specialist, I established an IT consulting firm called "ALAN Corporation" with my co-founders in 1991. Our Corporate Philosophy is "Do the right thing", which Google copied 7 years later."ALAN" stands for "Accurate Linkages for Advanced Needs". We are the first company who developed ISP registration software for the Japanese market in 1994 (known as "AISK": Apple Internet Starter Kit, in collaboration with Apple Inc. before broad-band.We have seen a dramatic change of IT champion. Netscape opened the IT door for everyone, then Google beat other search engines, and so on. Tesla is another good example of a game changer using IT. Only outsiders can do this creative destruction known as "Schumpeter's gale" as they do not hesitate changing "tradition" when they create new values. (ALAN actually stands for Accurate Linkages For Advanced Needs).Before changing its name to Veltra (it stands for velle transfiguro, want to change) , we focused B2B IT and Marketing consulting services for global clients such as Apple, IBM, GM, Ford, Mercedes, Porsche,VW, Jaguar and so on.In Particular, we have done 2 extraordinary works.The 1st one was to create Internet connecting tools before the wifi age. Packaged as a bundle product under all the Apple Macintosh sold in Japan, this product became a mega hit in 1994.The 2nd remarkable work was to help European Auto Manufacturers such as Mercedes and Porsche,to build their new branding image in Japan. We executed timely and effective marketing research by analyzing brand awareness together with purchase pricing sensitivity.Since 2000, being assigned as the CEO until 2015, I managed/re-created the company as a founder/director/CEO, by shifting it from a B2B consulting firm to B2C IT platform company. In these process,we decided to go into the online travel marketplace to change the world of travel more easily and conveniently to book any type of local experience in the world. We achieved more than +30% growth YOY, turned positive in 5 years. Gross sales went beyond 100 mil. USD after 10 years. (HR)I feel happy doing people' management, and organizing over 100 staff.     My main role is to generate business by launching a new service of Tiqets into the Japanese market. In order to develop a new market, especially a market like Japan, it is very important to communicate with key persons when starting, otherwise it will end up just a waste of time. So I started to visit the ACA(Agency for Cultural Affairs) in the Japanese government to get necessary advice and endorsement(introduction) to begin with.I also recruited/managed a small but excellent specialist team of 5 (global team) to get new contracts with local tour/venue suppliers in Japan, resulting in a total of 100 new suppliers contracted in 2 years.I built/managed a supplier/customer support team, utilizing IT outsource tools. I also created a communication/operational bridge between Netherlands (HQ) and Japan (branch) , using all the available IT tools incl. salesforce, slack, whatsapp etc.

    My business career started at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd in Japan. At the Overseas Marketing Department, my main task was to create a global marketing plan of key global products in Asia to enhance the brand image of Nissan.By creating an effective video shooting method, also changing its location from Japan to overseas countries, I successfully contributed to getting more Nissan brand awareness (+20%) without any cost increase compared to the old method. )Another important initiative I took was tax and accounting of the overseas department. Especially, directly assigned by the vice president, I executed Business Process Re-engineering for monthly financial closing. By analyzing and changing the entire accounting item and scheme, the process had been dramatically improved (3 days to 1 day). This experience helped me a lot when I started my own business later on.
