Technical lead (2nd in command of 14 students) responsible for all testing, airframe design, and integration of subsystems within the rocket-This was a year-long national rocketry competition against 60 universities. Our team placed 5th in the country. -The rocket reached 5343ft (goal of 5280ft) using an L1500 solid ammonium perchlorate rocket motor.-A PI control system referenced Simulink-generated trajectory data to control drag flaps and hit a target altitude while protecting a fragile payload.-Designed all components using Creo parametric and utilized advanced manufacturing (FDM Additive manufacturing, 5-axis CNC Milling, CMM scanning, carbon fiber techniques) to build the air-frame and payload housings. -A four-bar linkage landing gear (AL-6061) was housed in the nose cone and opened upon descent to aid the vacuum-sealed, gas-piston payload protection system. -

Design Lead - Junior Design: Fishing Rod Casting Robot (1St Place)University Of North Carolina At Charlotte Jan 2016 - May 2016Charlotte, Nc, Us- Conceptual design lead- CAD/CAM with simulations and animations in ProE/Creo- Presentations for Preliminary, Conceptual, Final and competition design reviews.I developed the original design concept, guided the design approach, and generated the CAD. I owned the mechanical function of the robot. The project was to build a robot to cast a 5 oz lure into a hula-hoop from a distance of 10 feet. Additionally, the highest award would also go to the robot that could achieve the longest distance cast. We developed a robot that consistently cast the lure a specified distance. The distance was input using a smart phone application. The user would input a distance from 10' to 120' in increments of 10 feet into the application, and the robot would cast the lure within 5 feet of that distance. We took the top award for design and casting distance. Our robot weighed a little over 15 lb. and cost $200 in total while our closest competitor's robot weighed 85 lb and cost more than $500 to build. -
