Mr. Kelly began his legal career as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy’s Judge Advocate General Corps, serving as trial and defense counsel. He tried hundreds of cases involving both military and civilian violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Additionally, he sat as a judge at Special Courts Martial at the Law Center, Fifth Naval District, Norfolk, Virginia.For nine years Mr. Kelly was a Special Attorney with the Organized Crime and Racketeering Section of the U.S. Dept. of Justice. He was assigned to Strike Forces in both Philadelphia and Boston. In Boston, he served as Deputy Chief of the N.E. Organized Crime Strike Force.Mr. Kelly became the first full-time Assistant U.S. Attorney assigned to the Western Massachusetts area serving under both U.S. Attorneys Edward Harrington and William Weld.In 1982, Mr. Kelly joined the law firm of Ryan & White, P.C. in Springfield MA., as a trial attorney. He concentrated in matters relating to white-collar criminal defense, personal injury, employment and commercial litigation.In January of 1991, Mr. Kelly with two other litigation partners from Ryan & White, formed the firm Kelly, Pessolano & Withers which was then succeeded by the firm Kelly, Pessolano, Dusel & Murphy in 1998.In February of 2000, Mr. Kelly established himself in his present role, as a sole practitioner, representing individuals and businesses in a variety of civil and criminal matters. He possesses an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the Assoc. of Trial Lawyers of America and the MA. Academy of Trial Attorneys. Former member of the MA. Governor’s Judicial Nominating Committee. He supervised investigations conducted by the federal law enforcement agencies and then prosecuted the cases that resulted from those investigations, including violations of the tax, drug, firearms, and banking laws. -

In Boston, he served as Deputy Chief of the New England Organized Crime Strike Force which oversaw the organized crime prosecutions by Justice Department Attorneys throughout New England. He coordinated and supervised the investigative efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, brought those investigations through the grand jury process and then prosecuted those cases in federal courts in Boston and Springfield. Some of those prosecutions involved high-ranking elected officials for bribery and extortion in connection with their official duties. He was awarded a Special Commendation for Outstanding Service in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice and was selected to assist in the preparation of the first Electronic Surveillance Manual for use by Departmental Attorneys. -
