As a supervisor, I was responsible for overseeing 20 boilermakers, pipe fitters, mechanical fitters and trades assistants. My role as supervisor involved work planning and scheduling within inflexible, limited deadlines and oversight of considerable rectification work from previous contractor. I was routinely trusted to oversee crews in addition to my own by other supervisors in their absence. I supervised the installation of structural steel, piping and supports, and conducted inspections to gain client sign-off, achieving a very high rate of client sign-off and highly positive feedback from fellow supervisors for well-planned SIMOPS. As with all previous roles, the safety of my crew was my top priority, with zero injuries or incidents on my watch, despite the extremely challenging timeframes. I was initially brought onto this project as a boilermaker / pipe fitter before being promoted to supervisor. As supervisor, I oversaw crews of up to 20 pipe fitters across the Wheatstone LNG and Gorgon LNG projects. I supervised my crews in construction of modules, inner connectors and stick built piping. I was responsible for ensuring my crews were working to client specifications, and safety and quality standards and requirements. I was often asked to oversee other crews in addition to my own in the absence of other supervisors. As an experienced pipe fitter and boilermaker, this was a wonderful opportunity to advance my career and build my skills across operations supervision, SIMOPS, safety management, quality assurance, client reporting, and personnel training and coaching. As a leading hand, I was responsible for a crew of 15 working on the airport link tunnel. Effective SIMOPS were critical in this role given the limitations of the tunnel and number of crews and personnel onsite. I led the fabrication and installation of fire and water piping and pipe supports, and the installation of jet fans and brackets. I was accountable for the quality, productivity and safety of my crew, sustaining zero injuries and incidents.
