This project also involved spatially modeling ecological functions performed by wetland vegetation species and using those models as inputs for a systematic landscape planning software - Marxan. Marxan generates optimized landscape management plans that minimize cost and risk while meeting set conservation targets. Conservation targets are the important ecological functions performed by wetland vegetation that provide critical ecosystem services. Ultimately, this project helped wetland managers assess synergies and tradeoffs among ecosystem functions at the landscape level, and allowed managers to target areas for on-the-ground actions. Graduate Research Assistant
In this role, I conducted literature reviews and edited grant proposals, developed alternative future scenarios and natural resource analysis for southeastern Utah using ArcGIS and Geodesign, and then published the report for stakeholders using Adobe InDesign, Google Docs, and ArcGIS.
