About Aubrey Baker
I am an aeronautical structures engineer at Lockheed Martin. I studied aerospace engineering at the University of Texas at Austin with a minor in communication studies. While at UT, I spent my time as a member of the collegiate SAE chapter on the Longhorn Racing (LHR) Solar Vehicle team. I was the LHR university outreach officer as well as the design lead for the composites and shells sub-team. The beginning of my STEM outreach enthusiasm began when I became the lead spokesperson for the public school district’s engineering program. Some key experiences that have allowed me to grow as an individual and leader were being a STEM camp counselor, STEM employee, and STEM volunteer for many events. In the future, I want to obtain a graduate degree and become an engineer that leaves my mark on the world!
Listed skills include Youth Outreach, Public Outreach, Stem, Leadership, and 4 others.

Researcher
Design microgravity flight experiments and submit a formal proposal to the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education (NCESSE) that would be carried out on the ISS.• Biodegrade plastic with an enzyme, PEase, found in the saliva of wax worms• If proven that the enzyme can sustain itself under microgravity conditions, further research would evaluate the large-scale production of enzymes to biodegrade plastic on a larger scale

Undergraduate Research Assistant: Low-Speed Aerodynamics
Recent studies at the University of Texas have shown that roughness-induced transition (RIT) can be delayed using control strips and other surface textures, for a parameter regime relevant to insect impacts on low-speed aircraft wing leading edges. This project examines a range of other engineering scenarios, such as racing yacht hydrofoils, automotive applications, helicopter blades, gas turbine blades, and wind turbine blades where roughness-induced transition could be a potential issue. These applications have different operating conditions, such as much higher free-stream turbulence intensity compared to aircraft applications. This project thus involves an extensive literature review, estimation of parameters, and computation of relevant dimensionless numbers such as roughness Reynolds numbers and turbulence intensities across the different applications. To validate the possibility of a new application, preliminary CFD simulations using DNS code were executed to examine the challenges in transition mitigation for the wind turbine application.
