Aubrey has built her career incorporating the physics of terrestrial hydrology into predictive models to answer questions about human impacts on water systems. Prior to NCAR, she developed models to predict water supply and water quality impacts from different urban infrastructure designs. In her PhD work, she improved the water and energy partitioning processes within a coupled eco-hydrological model to predict changes in water availability due to forest management and disturbance. At NCAR, Aubrey has become one of the leading experts on the WRF-Hydro Community Modeling System and applications like the NOAA National Water Model and the NASA LIS/WRF-Hydro coupled system. She has advanced surface and subsurface characterization, snowpack dynamics, and lateral flow processes to produce better hydrologic forecasts. She is currently leading pilot efforts to represent the physics of forest disturbance and urbanization in the WRF-Hydro/National Water Model system.
