Part of a fully remote, cross-functional, cross-organizational team helping the Department of Veterans' Affairs deliver human-centered services. I'm the Product Lead on VA's Lighthouse program, which has a broad and exciting set of mandates. Our product teams have delivered and managed: - Over 20 APIs across the domains of health, benefits, facilities, eligibility, and service history. - A public API platform and developer portal (developer.va.gov) that enables hundreds of developers to securely leverage VA data to better serve millions of Veterans, their families, and their representatives. - A delivery platform, providing delivery infrastructure that reduces overhead and enables continuous authority to operate (cATO) for developers at VA, enabling them to ship quickly, reliably, and securely. - A VA-internal developer portal enabling discovery of existing services, as well as other developer resources, tooling, and information.I have been on this program in various roles almost from its inception, and have had the privileged opportunity to observe and reflect on how various decisions have panned out and evolved over the past 5+ years as the program has grown from about 10 people across a couple of teams to over 170 people across 19 teams.

- Tailored, introduced, and fostered adaptation of a set of agile practices to fit a startup as it matured and grew. - Facilitated effective workshops and retrospectives at all levels of the organization. - Coached product managers, executives, and people working with them. - Gathered, interpreted, and shared product and team performance data. - Participated in hiring for the product organization. - Established and configured tools to support teams’ collaboration in an iterative fashion.

Helped teams supporting student loan servicing who had been struggling to adopt agile practices understand the principles behind them and experience the benefits of an agile approach first-hand. - Coached and supported product owners, both new and experienced. - Modeled and illustrated how to break problems into meaningful small deliveries, write useful acceptance criteria, and make meaningful forecasts based on data. - Facilitated workshops and worked with diverse groups to identify experiments that allowed them to test hypotheses before investing in complete solutions. - Mentored leaders and developed/presented training material on various subjects.

Played a dynamic role, meeting whatever needs arose from inception through post-delivery support and enhancements of a vast content management system. In addition to my direct technical contributions, I: - Worked closely with non-technical stakeholders to understand their goals and pain points, and served as a translator between business and engineering. - Wrote and contextualized user stories and epics. - Supported our internal customers as they learned to use our products, then used insights from those interactions to improve our solutions. - Collaborated to create a cohesive vision for products across teams.

Embedded in a small team developing and maintaining a real estate database and search interface. - Worked closely with the support team to address complex customer concerns and understand needs; represented those on the team. - Led analysis of third-party solutions to judge quality and relevance to our offering; made recommendations to senior leadership, and led the integration initiative.

Consulted as a tester on a wide array of short and long-term client projects, from shiny new web and mobile applications to modernizing legacy business rule engines. - Led a project for Amazon from the early stages of development through post-launch operations. - Developed and communicated testing strategies to meet customers’ needs. - Trained and coached testers, many new to the craft. - Primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.

Supported a small cross-functional team building flagship web capabilities. - Documented and clarified business and technical requirements. - Planned and executed testing; communicated findings, unknowns, and risks. - Used SQL extensively and deployed code.
