I am a historian, author and academic who is committed to exploring methodologies for using history to advance social justice today. I have been a professor of history at Carleton University since 2005. I also serve as the Coordinator of its Latin American and Caribbean Studies program. I am also one of the Faculty Advisors on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion at the university. I have been awarded research and writing fellowships from The Rockerfeller Foundation's Bellagio Center (Italy) and Yale University's Gilder Lehrman Center. I have also held the post of Professeure Invitée at the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3 (l’IHEAL). My work has been funded by several agencies including the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. My current writing projects are focused on the concepts of “usable history” and "critical applied history" as they relate to the Caribbean, Africa and the Global South more generally.
