With over five decades of experience in both jazz and classical music, Audrey Morrison is a distinguished trombonist and educator who has made significant contributions to the music world. A native of New York City, Audrey began her journey on the trombone at the age of 9 and has since established herself as a leading figure in the field. She holds a B.M. in Music Education and an M.M. in Jazz Studies from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied under the legendary Emory Remington.Throughout her career, Audrey has performed with some of the most prestigious ensembles and musicians, including the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Clark Terry Big Band, and the DIVA Big Band. She has also been Principal Trombone of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra since 1981. As the Director of Jazz Studies at the Music Institute of Chicago, Audrey is passionate about mentoring the next generation of musicians, with a special focus on supporting young female jazz artists through initiatives like the Jazz Institute of Chicago's 'Women's Leadership Initiative.'Audrey's teaching philosophy is rooted in her belief that music should be shared and enjoyed by all, and she continues to inspire students through her work in various educational settings, including online lessons, workshops, and summer jazz camps.
