I grew up as an active member of my home church, and after youth group and summer worship conferences made a positive impact on my life, I decided to become a leader in the faith community. I have served in many positions in faith-based organizations, beginning with the Presbytery of the Peaks Youth Council and the Jeremiah Project at Montreat Youth Conference. Toward the end of my high school years, I was accepted to the Advocate program at Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference Center where I later served as a head counselor and planning team member. As a member of the planning team, I was tasked with developing worship and recreation experiences appropriate for middle school students while also maintaining a healthy and productive group dynamic among other counselors. Since then, I have served as a camp counselor at Camp Timothy, a summer camp for inner-city youth run by Churches for Urban Ministry in Lynchburg, VA, and at Netta Day Camp in its first year of operation. I was also hired as the Youth Ministry Intern at First Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa, and a Student Director for Bama UKirk. While each of these positions provided unique opportunities to develop curriculum, facilitate small-group discussions, write worship content, and manage conflict among youth and colleagues alike, it was in my mentorship with the youth that I was able to make the greatest impact. While concentrating my studies in youth and adolescent development, I have learned the appropriate ways to interact with youth and their families. I hope to continue my education at a Presbyterian Theological Seminary so I can serve as an effective minister to the youth of a congregation.
